Adults are 28-38 cm (11-15 in) long with a 76-84 cm (30-33 in) wingspan and a body mass of 162-270 g (5.7-9.5 oz). They have a black hood and a short thin dark bill. The body is mainly white with a pale grey back and upper wings. This gull was found a bit out of his range in Gilbert, Arizona at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. A stunning simplicity...so very beautifully presented, Ruth! I just returned from a trip to the Adriatic. One of my goals was to capture an outstanding gull image. Came home with more than a hundred gull photos. Only two have possibilities and I am working on those.
