A lucky shot for me, I was out to photograph birds one hot Arizona summer morning
at The Riparian Preserve At Water Ranch, not that many birds were out, and although it was early I could still feel the sun beating down on me. I wondered over to another pond and thought "While maybe there will at least be some butterflies over by the flowers" As if someone heard my thoughts I looked over and saw this
Queen butterfly basking in the soft glow of the morning light. Her wings were spread open and I thought to myself as I focused my camera "Thank you for something as small as a butterfly" that made my day.

The queen Butterfly (Danaus gilippus) is a North and South American butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (the brush-foots) with a wingspan of 2.75 3.25" (70 88mm). They seem to be the most common here in Arizona in the summer months. Fine Art America watermark will not appear on purchased artwork.
