The pads or modified stems can be so colorful. I have a variety of prickly pear cactus growing in my desert acre, and look forward to their beautiful blooms every spring. Getting in close can be quite painful if you brush against those fine, tiny, barbed spines called glochids. They go right through clothes and even gloves. A marvelous image of their beauty. Most of the flowers have dried up leaving the fruits behind. But it looks like there of two more blooms left. LF
